Binge and Purgatory

First things first Deez Nuts isn’t just a hilarious meme, it is also the name of an Australian hardcore punk band. The band formed in Melbourne 2007 and have been rocking out ever since. The band consists of vocalist JJ Peters, bassist Sean Kennedy, guitarist Matt Rodgers and drummer Alex Salinger.

Deez Nuts are heavily influenced by Hip Hop, Hardcore and Punk. They have a total of seven EPs and Albums including their latest album released 7th April 2017 titled Binge and Purgatory.

Before this however Deez Nuts had released their studio album This One’s for You in 2010. This album features vocals from Bring me the Horizon front man Oli Sykes, on the track “If you don’t know now you know.” Damn, Oli Sykes really gets around. This album was followed by the bands third album, Bout it! Released in March 2013. This album includes renowned singles such as Shot after Shot, Band of Brothers and of course Unfuckwithable.

The rock n’ roll Aussies did a favour for all us poor lonely souls and played a show on the 14th February 2017 at Sound Control in Manchester as part of their shared You Are Part of This tour with Comeback Kid. Yes, I attended. It’s not like I didn’t have valentines offers ok, live music is just better. I digress…

Deez Nuts put on one hell of a show, as usual. This was my second time seeing them live and they did not disappoint. The boys graced the stage in typical Deez Nuts fashion, all guns blazing and ready to rock. As it was a smaller venue you were really able to get a feel for the music. Fortunately I was able to make my way right down to the front of the crowd and got the full Deez Nuts experience. They played a mixture of crowd favourites and classics from former albums such as Band of Brothers and Face This on My Own from the Word is Bond album. They also performed some sneak peaks from the latest album Binge and Purgatory including Commas and Zeros, Discord and Binge/Purgatory.

During the show Deez Nuts had a film crew capturing some of the best moments to include in their tour diary and Instagram tour promotion clips (which you can still go and check out). The support acts this time round were First Blood, Hellions, Get the Shot and Reality Slap. The stage bromance was definitely detectable.

The Australian rockstars are currently on the road with Canadian band Obey the Brave and Get the Shot, they are playing shows all over the world from Germany to Canada, hopefully they’ll come back to sunny England and give us another UK and Ireland tour. But until then, go ahead and grab yourself a copy of their latest album Bing and Purgatory and keep a look out for upcoming shows near you!

You Are We – UK and Ireland Tour

On Saturday 29th April 2017 I had the astounding pleasure of attending While She Sleeps You Are We tour. I was lucky enough to nab myself a ticket and watched them perform at Manchester Academy 2 on Oxford Road.

This was the first time I had ever seen While She Sleeps perform live and let me tell you, it was most definitely worth the wait. Before the show While She Sleeps had invited special guest bands to perform as support acts. I didn’t get a chance to see the supports however but I did make it just in time to watch the magic happen.

There was the usual hustle and bustle of pre show nerves and excitement. The floor was sticky, soaked with spilled beer and ciders. The smell of alcohol and sweat mixed together to create an unusual aroma. People were pushing here and there trying to get the perfect spot before the lads got on stage, me being 5’4 there is no perfect spot. But despite the obscured vision and swamp like group as soon as those house lights dimmed all focus went on to the stage, which was lit atmospherically with milk bottles hanging from the ceiling. The crowd began to scream and shout as Adam walked onto the stage, soon after followed by Aaran, Mat and Sean. The crowd now chanting “While She Sleeps” at the very top of their lungs and Loz finally sauntered onto the stage, this was it. It was time.

The lights dimmed and the music started to play, Loz held onto the microphone tightly and screamed down the mic, “YOU ARE WE.”

The crowd was absolutely insane, the energy was unbeatable. Its safe to say that You Are We got the response it deserved, the mosh pits were out in full force and the voices of thousands of adoring fans were in synchronisation.

The setlist was a mixture of new tracks from the latest album and old crowd favourites. They opened the show with You Are We and then went into Civil Isolation from the new album. They then went on to perform Seven Hills from the album This is the Six and then Brainwashed from the Brainwashed album. In the middle of rocking out front man Loz took a minute to thank the audience for all their support and dedication to the band. You’re totally welcome mate.

They closed the show with crowd favourite Hurricane and it was absolute carnage. Every single person in that arena belted like their hearts depended on it and moshed like it too. The air was damp with sweat, spit and beer. But thats the fun of it right?

If you’re planning on going to attend a show from the You Are We tour I cannot recommend it enough, you wont be disappointed.

The complete setlist:

You Are We
Civil Isolation
Seven Hills
Empire of Silence
New World Torture
Wide Awake
Our Legacy
This is the Six
Silence Speaks
Four Walls

You Are We

While She Sleeps are a metal core band from Sheffield, England. Formed in early 2006, the band consists of front man and vocalist Lawrence ‘Loz’ Taylor, bassist Aaran McKenzie, guitarists Sean Long and Mat Welsh and drummer Adam Savage.

The band has so far released an EP The North Stands for Nothing in 2010, and two studio albums, This is the Six in 2012 and Brainwashed in 2015.

While She Sleeps have since released their new album titled You Are We.
It was funded entirely through PledgeMusic after the band decided to leave Sony Music earlier this year. The album was recored at a home studio in Sheffield, you could say it was completely homegrown. Vocalist Lawrence Taylor told Scott Munro at “There’s always been a very DIY aspect to this band so going it alone a bit more just reiterates that to everyone.” Despite the risky movement to self realise the new material it was clearly the right decision as You Are We is currently No.8 in the UK Top 40 album charts. Before this however guitarist Sean Long took to twitter on 25 April saying, “If we get a top 10 album I’ll shit my self.” My only question now is, did you?

Before the album had been fully released the band didn’t hold back on teasing the eager fans. The first song they released to the general public from the latest album was You are We. The band then took it that one step further and held a mini show in the Sleeps Warehouse, Sheffield were they played another track from the new album titled Hurricane. The lucky lads and lasses that helped to fund the album and managed to get tickets to this awesome event (my mates being a few of them) were recorded and the footage of the gig was used to create the Hurricane music video, lucky so and sos.

So what other surprises can be expected from You Are We? Well, how about a track featuring the vocalist from the band Bring me the Horizon, Oli Sykes. While She Sleeps gave us our first listen to the track Silence Speaks on BBC Radio One and its safe to say the fans loved it. With both While she Sleeps and Bring me the Horizon hail from Sheffield it was a pleasant and very sort after surprise. Before this epic collaboration though both bands were chatting back and forth via social media. Sean Long tweeted Bring me The Horizon praising the track Doomed from their latest album That’s the Spirit. Long tweeted, “Doomed is such an amazing song. Blows me socks off every time.” Can I smell a bromance?

With a new album out to the world can we be expecting a tour? The answer is yes! While She Sleeps have announced they will be doing the You Are We tour around the UK and Ireland. So grab a ticket, buckle up and get ready for the rock of your life.
